Here are some of our recorded performances in MP3 format.
Air in D - J.S. Bach
[4:53]
Air in D - J.S. Bach - Sample
[0:30]
This piece, commonly known as Air on the G string, is from the Orchestral Suite in D major. The Divas are very fond of this arrangement by cellist and teacher, Colin Hampton. Air has become a favorite of our audiences, who seem to respond to the piece’s serene, yet poignant, quality.
Tritsch - Tratsch
Polka - Johann Strauss II [2:51]
This polka, written in 1858, was originally composed for orchestra. The piece is a fun, spirited romp, with lively interaction between the four voices. The title “Tritsch-Tratsch”, is often translated as "Chitchat”, but it may also be related to "trictrac", the French gambling game. The game takes its name from the sound of the dice hitting the hard table on which it
is played.
Blue Funk - Jeff Tyzik [3:17]
Jeff Tyzik, Principal Pops Conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, wrote this piece originally as one movement in his Blues Suite for string quintet. Jeff graciously offered to arrange it for the Cello Divas after he heard us play Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie in 2001. We love the powerful groove of this piece.
Danse Macabre - Camille Saint-Saens
[6:47]
(arranged by the Cello Divas)
When the Divas were first booked to appear on WXXI’s “Live from Hochstein” radio broadcast, we were delighted that the concert fell on Halloween. We immediately set out to find a piece which would bring the right “spirit” to the occasion. Danse Macabre seemed the perfect choice, and since we found no cello quartet arrangement of this wonderful orchestral piece, we decided to seize upon this great opportunity and venture into the art of arranging. We had great fun with this process, and are proud of the results.
