LAS VEGAS, Nev. – May 20, 2011 – “Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80s” music festival kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend with a free concert by Terri Nunn & Berlin on Saturday, May 28 at 9 p.m. on the 1st Street Stage. Also ready to entertain visitors is the launch of an original production show, “VJ Invasion: Launch Date 8.1.81,” the start of Blackwood’s countdown of her 100 greatest songs of the 80s on Viva Vision and a chance to travel Back to the Future by seeing a rare 80s icon, a DeLorean DMC-12. With the world debut of The Nancy Rayguns 80s music tribute on May 31, Fremont Street Experience’s three stages will be active every night as the 100-day flashback to the 80s takes over downtown through Labor Day Weekend.
Terri Nunn & Berlin For fans of electronic music and the far-reaching wave of style and pop culture that followed in the wake of the 80s – Berlin vocalist Terri Nun is an icon. As the charismatic vocalist for a band that virtually launched electronic dance rock in the U.S., Nunn earned the No. 11 spot on VH1’s list of the “100 Greatest Women in Rock.” Berlin is still performing and recording more than 20 years after the release of the groundbreaking debut of Pleasure Victim which spawned three hits including the group’s first single, “The Metro,” the dance hit “Masquerade,” and the wildly controversial single “Sex (I’m A…)” With the release of Love Life in 1984, MTV’s burgeoning popularity generated nationwide exposure for Berlin through the memorable videos for “No More Words” and “Dancing in Berlin.” But the pivotal moment in the band’s career arrived when the romantic ballad “Take My Breath Away” from their 1986 album, Count Three Pray, was prominently featured in the movie Top Gun. The song won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe in addition to achieving crossover success for Berlin. A world tour followed with the band performing for stadium crowds throughout Europe and England.
The Nancy Rayguns The Nancy Rayguns are more than just a cover band; they are a complete show with stage sets, music videos, comedy and of course, the VAL-2600, 1985’s most powerful interactive supercomputer. Their mission is to rid the world of bogus music and to help the audience relive the 1980s with the best jams of that era. The band, which consists of Kim Gone Wild, Iceman, Dig Dug, Howard Joneson and The Noid, will bring audiences back to the days of leg warmers and scrunchies with spot-on renditions of such classic hits like “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Kids in America,” “My Sharona,” “Safety Dance,” “Lucky Star,” “Electric Avenue,” “Its Tricky” and many more. The Nancy Rayguns will perform Tuesday through Friday with three 45-minute sets starting at 9, 10 and 11 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage.
